New construction can
be complex and confusing. Owners, lenders, architects,
contractors, subcontractors, laborers and material providers
all play a role. Each has a distinct expectation and interest
to protect.
The State of Michigan has developed and enacted
specific laws that address and define many of
these interests and expectations, and how the
parties may protect their respective interests.
The statutes forming this body of law are collectively
referred to as the Construction Lien Act (hereinafter
referred to as the Act).
The Act spells out methods by which the parties
can protect their respective rights and
interests. We are pleased to provide some tools
that can be used to do so, as part of a package
of materials we call The Construction
Zone.
We constantly update these materials. Please
contact your Sales Executive
for access to the latest version, via our download link on the right.
The information contained in these materials is intended
to give you an overview and acquaint you with some of
the terms, procedures and forms used during the construction
process. This is not a comprehensive study of the Act
or an exhaustive explanation of parties rights and responsibilities
thereunder. Direct additional questions or inquiries concerning
the Act and parties rights or responsibilities to your
legal representative.
